There are many ways of spending a day out in North Devon. Details are available in the "box file" in each of our rooms. Here are a few examples.

After exploring Langleigh Guest House garden using the guide and planting list provided why not explore some of North Devon's other wonderful gardens. Marwood Hill gardens is situated within 15 minutes drive from Langleigh House and has been created over the last 50 years and includes mature trees and rare shrubs along with herbaceous and alpine plants. RHS Rosemoor is situated near Great Torrington and covers an area of 65 acres and is acknowledged as one of the most exciting horticultural achievements in recent years. Or visit the garden created by Gardener's World presenter Carol Klein at Glebe Cottage near Umberleigh. There are other gardens situated in North Devon that are worth a visit.

Within walking distance from Langleigh House visit Watermouth Castle & Theme Park. You can sit and look out over Watermouth Cove or loose yourself in the dungeon labyrinths. Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park can be reached easily by car or public transport where you can see apes and monkeys and Tomb of the Pharaohs along with many more attractions.

You can visit one of the most haunted dwellings in the U.K. at Chambercombe Manor which was mentioned in the Doomsday Book and has a secret chamber which housed a skeleton.

Further afield is the unique coastal village of Clovelly where the steep cobbled street tumbles down past gleaming white cottages to the tiny deep blue harbour.

Or visit Dartington Crystal where the children go free of charge and watch glassmaking in the only remaining major U.K. crystal and glass manufacturer.

The nearby National Trust property at Arlington Court was the seat of the Chichester family and is set in an extensive estate with an impressive collection of horse drawn vehicles along with a unique display of model ships.

There is a wide range of sporting activities to choose from. North Devon boasts several good golf courses. Ilfracombe Golf Course is less that 2 miles and the well renowned Saunton Sands Golf Course is approximately 8 miles. Whether you choose to go pony trekking on Exmoor, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, cycling, kayaking or walking the coastal path there is something for everyone. The beaches of Saunton, Woolacombe and Croyde are also world famous for their surfing activities along with the award winning Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe established in 1823.

There are some 15 organised festivals that take place annually in North Devon. To make sure you do not miss any you can check the North Devon diary of events but here are a few examples.

May - North Devon and Exmoor Walking Festival. A chance to explore the scenic and natural beauty of North Devon & Exmoor.

June - Art Trek Open Studios. Artists and makers across North Devon, West Exmoor and Torridge open their homes and studios welcoming visitors to see and talk about their artwork.

June - The North Devon Festival takes place over the whole of the month of June and features over 200 events in different locations throughout the region.

There are four annual beer festivals that take place in North Devon and one in Somerset that can be recommended by Langleigh House and two can be linked as an attraction for any steam railway enthusiast. One during June at Wood Bay Station on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway...

...and one which takes place in September at Minehead Station on the West Somerset Railway.
